Eat and Drink Bulgaria – Private Food & Wine Tour

This is not just a tour, but a way to experience Bulgaria through its food, wine and local traditions.

This private tour takes you beyond the typical routes and into the countryside – where you will stay with a local family, learn traditional recipes and discover regional wines.

The tour combines authentic Rhodope mountain cuisine, home cooking experiences and wine tastings near Plovdiv. It is ideal for travelers who want to experience the country through its flavours not just its landmarks.

Day 1:
Arrival and transfer to the house of a local family happily living in a small village in the middle of the Rhodope mountains. Well tucked away, offering breathtaking views to the surrounding hills, crystal clear mountain air and the famous Rhodopian hospitality, it is the best place where you can learn the "secrets" of cooking from the host Malina, known to be the best local chef. This is one of the most authentic parts of the tour, giving you a rare opportunity to experience real Bulgarian hospitality.

Day 2 and 3: During your stay, you will not just taste Bulgarian food – you will learn how to prepare it yourself, using traditional recipes passed down through generations. You will learn how to cook Bulgarian style dishes such as - "Banitsa" (typical Bulgarian breakfast prepared with eggs, cheese and phyllo pastry and baked in the oven), "Tarator" (cold soup made of yogurt, water, cucumber, garlic, walnut and dill) , "Moussaka" (classic Bulgarian meal prepared with potatoes, minced meat, onion, eggs, spices and Bulgarian yogurt on the side), "Stuffed peppers" (fresh peppers filled with minced meat and rice) as well as traditional Rhodopian food like "Rodopski klin" (similar to the traditional Banitsa) and "Patatnik" (potato-based dish, prepared with grated potatoes and onions, as well as spearmint)

Day 4: Morning drive to Plovdiv, one of the oldest cities in Europe, known for its Old Town, cobblestone streets and beautiful Bulgarian Renaissance houses.

Day 5 and 6: The region around Plovdiv is one of the most important wine areas in Bulgaria, known for its rich wine traditions and diverse styles. Over the next couple of days, you will visit boutique wineries where you can taste both well-known international wines and distinctive local selections, including the characteristic Mavrud grape. The experience offers a balanced introduction to the wines of the region, combining familiar flavours with something more uniquely Bulgarian.

This is a journey into the everyday life of Bulgaria, where food, hospitality and tradition come together in a natural and unforced way. More than a tour, it is an opportunity to slow down, share moments with local people and experience the country in a truly personal way.

The day-by-day itinerary above is an example and may be adjusted to match your interests, travel dates, and pace.
